The First Saturday Devotion is in honor of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and it was requested by Our Blessed Mother at Fatima. Saturdays have traditionally been a day to honor the Blessed Mother for many centuries, but it wasn’t until 1925 that the First Saturday devotion was revealed.
On December 10, 1925, the Blessed Mother appeared to Sister Lucia at a convent in Pontevedra, Spain. Sister Lucia had previously been the recipient of Marian visions in Fatima, Portugal, along with her cousins Jacinta and Francisco. In this new private revelation eight years after the visions at Fatima, Mary requested the institution of the five consecutive First Saturday devotions in reparation to the Immaculate Heart.
The First Five Saturdays Devotions comprises: Confession, Communion, Five Decades of the Rosary, and 15-minute meditation on the mysteries.
At St. Boniface parish, we celebrate First Saturday Devotion with Mass at 8 AM and followed by Confession and Rosary. The First Saturday Schedule for 2025 is as follows: January 4th, February 1st, March 8th, April 5th, May 3rd, June 7th, July 5th, August 2nd, September 6th, October 4th, November 1st, and December 6th.
